I am a Reject

Welcome if you are stopping in from Kelly's Korner and Show us Your Life!!
I am a reject.  Is that too discouraging, too hopeless, too real?
I can remember in my teenage years and early 20’s knowing that getting pregnant before I was married could be the worst sin I could possibly commit.  So I didn’t.
Now after almost 7 years of married life for multiple reasons, we are still childless.
I feel like in this most basic cultural standard, as a woman, I am a reject.

As I look back to my younger years, I was so naive in my dreams. I was so sure that I would have children. I would be lying to myself if I didn’t admit that this was still my dream.  We rejoice with our family and friends as they create new life! We love that we have been included to celebrate in birthdays, showers, and announcements! I cherish the opportunities I have had to document these moments with my Camera .
As each month passes and “Aunt Flow” arrives, I realize just how important having a child is to me!

I’ve written a few times about this struggle here on my little piece of blogdom.  Although I don’t always want to focus on this struggle here, it is a very real part of my life story.  You can find out more about this journey here here , and here.

I am currently in a cycle of change on multiple fronts. I put together a pretty crazy mind map of my goals for 2014 which has helped me focus on areas of my life that needed direction and action.  One of these areas is my health. You can read about the eating and exercise challenge that I am currently working here, and some recent results here

When I complete the 24 day challenge, I am going to start drinking this Fertility Smoothie in the mornings for breakfast! I am hoping that this with weight loss and diabetes control will to regulate my hormones.
Another big area of focus for me is adding “Rest" to my life. You can read about the “One Little Word” workshop I am participating in here.  I am actively finding ways to invite moments of Rest into my busy world. This is a weird phenomenon for me.  I come from a family of origin that with good intention plans fun and productivity into every spare moment available. This was a way of life for me, and although it’s not a bad thing, it can add emotional pressure that turns into physical stress which is not good for my body.  After experiencing cycles of complete exhaustion and guilt laden inactivity with days of manic multitasking and finished to-do lists, I am on a voyage to find a place where finding rest is valued and a priority amongst the other priorities I have.  Using Capture Your 365  am documenting something every day that gives me rest, emotionally, physically, spiritually, or mentally!
I am also focusing on my relationship with my Lord. He is the author and creator of life and family! I am working to daily find a connection with him, to strengthen the relationship I have with Prayer and Praise.  In the midst of feeling rejected by our culture, I find myself blessed to be loved by the King of Kings.  There is peace that comes from stopping and becoming whole in the Love of my Lord. He alone restores my soul, and in my darkest moments gives me hope.

I am adding the book Hannah's Hope by Jennifer Saake to my reading list in the next couple months. Her book focuses on seeking God’s heart in the middle of infertility. We are also going to be attending Choose Joy in May. I pray that I can use both of these as opportunities to find comfort and harmony with what God’s plan is for my life as we struggle with infertility. We are fully onboard with adopting into our family as well. Doors continue to open and close as we walk this path, and we pray to see God’s direction clearly.
This is the hard stuff of life; it lurks in the shadows of the essence of who I am!  It flavors my days and nights. I know that my God is big enough to handle this! Prayer, searching, and action continue, and with faith I confidently walk forward with hope that our family will become 3.  My God is a lover of the Rejects, and has been proven faithful to those who seek him and his will in their lives.

If you too are on this crazy path of infertility I would love to hear from you.

Day 11 was a day full of ups and downs!

In the morning I was completely obsessed with the great progress I had made!

By the time I got ready to go to my guitar class I was a hot mess! Its been a really long time since I was in a classroom setting let alone with a bunch of adult strangers doing something as vulnerable as trying to make music from a shaped piece of wood with steal strings.

I had intended on going to Chick-fil-a but it was clear on the opposite side of town, and I was running late.

Then I planned on stopping at In & Out I was really craving a burger. I mean greasy fingers will help move across the strings right? However the drive thru line was clear around the block.

So I ended up at Arby's where I found very little joy after eating what was previously a comfort food for me.

The emotional navigation of this process is really exhausting, but worth the effort!

Advocare 24 Day Challenge - Results of Phase 1 - The 10 Day Clense

You can read my introduction and motivation for participating in this challenge here.

I find myself pretty speechless this morning.

After completing 10 of the hardest days of my life where eating is concerned, I was nervously eager to see what rewards would come from my effort.

My fasting blood sugar is down 204 points

I have lost 7 pounds

I have lost 13.75 inches

I am breaking my emotional connection to food on a daily basis, and learning to make healthier choices.

I am experiencing an increase in Energy.

I am so thankful for the support of my family, friends, and God for this journey and the results.

Excited to see what the next 14 days hold!

Day 10 was a good day! I was really pumped up on it being the last day of the cleanse and I wanted to finish strong.  I was able to really put my head down and stay on target.

I am starting to feel an increase in energy, which helped motivate me to get some things done at home tonight.

I don't think I realized that my new "Normal" had turned into such a sluggish life style. I am super excited about tapping into feeling better and getting more things done.

Advocare 24 Day Challenge - Day 9 Review

Day 9

Fasting Blood Sugar: 172

Probiotic Pills & Fiber - Only one more day, Only one more day!

Breakfast – Advocare Meal Replacement and 1 Omega Plex!

AM Snack – Banana and Peanut Butter

PM Snack – Apples and Peanut Butter

Dinner- Side Salad and Oh..it pains me to write this...1/3 order of Bacon and Cheese French Fries

Spazz Moment: 1 Child Size Frosty From Wendy's

Water, Water, Water – ½ Gallon

Day 9 was a day of misery. I got some news that sent me into an emotional tail spin. Not Proud, Not Proud at all! I did realize very quickly into my cheese fries that I was quickly plunging into a Carb hangover and quit eating them. I spent most of the evening trying to keep my eyes open, which was not fun during Bible Study.

This is going to be a huge thing for me to work on. Everyday on this challenge I have learned more about the emotional connection I have with food. Its rough, and something that is a daily battle. I was in such a cycle of frustration that I didn't eat lunch. In fact nothing even remotely sounded good to eat, especially not what I had brought.

I am thankful to Ryan that reminded me that tomorrow is a new day. Tomorrow is the last day of the 10 day cleanse. I will be excited to see the progress in weight and inches on Thursday!

Day 8 was a pretty great day! I did completely crumble and have a bite of Pizza. It’s a weak spot for me! But I countered that my increase in exercise would make it a little better. I found myself truly hungry today in the evening and splurged a little on Peanut Butter. I am sure this will not be good either.  Im going to try to stay away from an evening snack.

Advocare 24 Day Challenge - Day 6 Review

Day 6

Fasting Blood Sugar: 193 - at 9:45 am, after a spark drink.

Probiotic Pill Pack and Spark – Two Probiotic pills and a spark drink!

Lunch – Chicken, Brown Rice, Asparagus

PM Snack – 2 teaspoons of Peanut Butter, 2 Hard Boiled Eggs

Dinner- Chick- Fil-a Grilled Chicken Nuggets, small fruit salad, 4 criss cut french fries, and 1 Omega Plex Supplement

Herbal Cleanse Pack – More of the Magic Pills.

Water, Water, Water – 1 gallon - at least I did 1 think right today!

Over all Day 6 was a hot mess! I don't even have words to describe it! I woke up on the complete crabby side of life this morning.

This challenge is teaching me a lot about my self.
1. I haven't really been hungry during this week which is a win, where I get trapped is the inability to choose crap food. Literally the thought of not being able to eat whatever craving I have almost brings me to the likes of a three year olds temper tantrum.
2. I have great sympathy for Ryan when he has tried and will try again in the future to stop smoking. I am pretty sure the anxiety I feel is nothing close to what he feels . Its certainly given me perspective.
3. Nothing…and I mean Nothing tastes better than a criss cut french fry from Chick Fil-a when you are craving a carb of some sort.
4. I am much better at following through when I have food prepared and ready to go! This is a good lesson for going forward!
5. I need to plan better for weekend days. We went to bed late, had to sleep on the couch (our new mattress was being delivered today), and I didn't prepare food ahead of time. This lead to me making some rash decisions and not working through the routine that I had been working during the week days.
6. My body does not know what to do with Normal Blood Sugar. I had an episode where I almost passed out, hearing went wacky, vision turned into a tunnel, and my knees were a little weak. I checked my Blood Sugar and it was 125, very close to the 120 I am supposed to be under.  After eating a bit of my afternoon snack I started to feel better. I am hoping as my sugars stay lower, my body will become more comfortable running at a lower sugar level.

2/7/2014 CY365 One Little Word Rest

This is a view of our meals these days. I make a mix of chicken, brown rice, and asparagus for us or lunch. Its pretty yummy!  I grill it up with a little olive oil and garlic salt! I really enjoy the brown rice. The flavor and feeling I get after eating it, is really fulfilling. Not having crazy hunger pains from this 24 day challenge helps me Rest in this decision.

Check out my Introduction to Capture Your 365 and One Little Word here.

Advocare 24 Day Challenge - Day 5 Review

Day 5

Fasting Blood Sugar: 182

Probiotic Pill Pack and Spark

Breakfast – Advocare Meal Replacement Shake and 1 Omega Plex!!

AM Snack –Banana and Peanut Butter

Lunch – Chicken, Brown Rice, and Asparagus

PM Snack – Apple and Peanut Butter

Spark Drink – More Fruit Punch Spark Drink

Dinner- El Pollo Loco Chicken Breast and Broccoli,  1 Omega Plex Supplement

Herbal Cleanse Pack – I totally forgot to take these

Water, Water, Water – about 3/4 of a gallon.

Over all day 5 started as a pretty great day for me! This is the lowest my fasting blood sugar has been in a very long time.  I was content for most of the day until I got home from work in the evening. Once I was comfy at home, the battle began. Traditionally our Friday evenings are opportunities to have a date night or enjoy time out to dinner with family and or friends. We ended up moving our bedroom around, and then sitting on our butts. Sitting on my butt is my favorite position to enjoy snacks and soda. I wanted nothing to do with a healthy dinner let alone cooking one. Thank you to Ryan for going out to El Pollo Loco so I didn't have to resist the In and Out Burger in the same parking lot. I don't know that I would have stayed strong enough.

Advocare 24 Day Challenge - Day 4 Review

Day 4

Fasting Blood Sugar: 207

Probiotic Pill Pack and Spark – No Fiber Drink Today! WOOT WOOT! Instead it’s replaced with two Probiotic pills and a spark drink!

Breakfast – Advocare Meal Replacement Shake and 1 Omega Plex!! I am pretty sure that I will be purchasing the Meal Replacement shakes in the future to continue after the 24 day challenge.

AM Snack –Banana and Peanut Butter

Lunch – Salad (Lettuce, Chicken, Easy Cesar Salad Dressing) – I totally messed up and forgot to cook food for lunch on day 3 so I had to improvise at the cafĂ© at work.

PM Snack – Apple and Peanut Butter

Spark Drink – More Fruit Punch Spark Drink

Dinner- Ground Beef 96/4 Meat Loaf, and asparagus. I used my meat loaf pan which allowed all the drippings to drip out and away from the meat. I cooked the asparagus with a little olive oil and garlic. 1 Omega Plex Supplement

Herbal Cleanse Pack – More of the Magic Pills.

Water, Water, Water – I only got a ½ gallon in today.  This is way more than I usually drink, but not enough for the plan.

Over all day 4 was a pretty low day for me.  I was plagued with lots of cravings today, French fries. Mozzarella sticks, and Cherry Taffy were dancing in my head. When I got home I weighed myself and had gained back a lost pound which was discouraging. I almost broke down, and drove thru, but prayed, dug deep emotionally and cooked dinner. I did have a little crumb of a rice crispy treat that Ryan was snacking on. And I am talking crumb. You can ask him! The little sweet bite helped get me through the evening. I also took another long bath.

Advocare 24 Day Challenge - Day 3 Review

Day 3

Fasting Blood Sugar: 233

Fiber Drink – The chunky-floating-sludge-small cup of doom slid down my throat again this morning.

Breakfast – Advocare Meal Replacement Shake and 1 Omega Plex! This is becoming a favorite of my day! I am a breakfast girl, and having something sweet and yummy to kick my day off is wonderful!

AM Snack –Banana and Peanut Butter

Lunch – Chicken, Asparagus, and Brown Rice

PM Snack – Apple and Peanut Butter

Spark Drink – More Fruit Punch Spark Drink, the afternoon slump has all but disappeared!

Dinner-My cousins from Mississippi were in town! We joined them and my Mom for dinner at a restaurant in Huntington Beach called Sandy’s. I had the Jidori Chicken Breast with grilled vegetables. Jidori Chicken means “Chicken of the Earth” in Japanese. The way the chicken is prepared is very healthy. It was truly one of the most flavorful and tasty Chicken breasts I have had.  I walked away from the meal feeling very proud of myself. Although eating out is not supported on the plan, I felt like I had made really great decisions, tried something new, and didn’t have any soda, carbs or dessert. I also took 1 of the Omega Plex Supplements.

Herbal Cleanse Pack – More of the Magic Pills.

Water, Water, Water – I only got 2/3 of a gallon of water today, totally failed on this front.

Over all day 3 was good.  I continued to feel satisfied with the amount of food. Emotionally I was much more stable on the food front! I did feel pretty tired throughout the day.  I think that might have something to do with my water intake.  I will focus on that tomorrow.
